Brevard welcomes Norwegian Sun to Port Canaveral

PORT CANAVERAL — Local officials celebrated the arrival of the Norwegian Sun cruise ship Saturday.

The 1,936-passenger capacity ship docked at the port after its first jaunt to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, and port and community officials expressed excitement over what it means for the local economy.

Bonnie King, assistant director for the Space Coast Office of Tourism, called it an "economic windfall" for the local economy during the Plaque & Key ceremony.

"This is going to bring 28 sailings for the next six months, and an estimated 55,000 cruise passengers," she said. "Your freestyle of cruising goes hand in hand with our easy lifestyle here on the Space Coast."
